One day some baddies came along and stole his elephant so he chased them and shouted, “Where’s my elephant?” and then he beat up the baddies but then they got him and wanted him to kill some leaders but his other best friend who was funny and another lady helped him and then he beat the baddies up and stopped his elephant from exploding and they all lived happily ever after. ‘Once upon a time there was a goody and his best friend was an elephant. When my own son comes up with a story, it usually goes something like: But it’s a bit of a stretch to expect a seven year old to think of difficult stuff like narrative structure or character development when there’s more interesting things to do like running round in circles or wondering what beetles taste like. However, if one were being brutally honest, they are usually a tad long, rambling, and incoherent - a bit like this review. Invariably the tales they weave are a fascinating insight into their fledgling imagination and are by turns charming, sweet and unintentionally funny. Perhaps they have been given a particular homework assignment or maybe they just got a sudden rush of inspiration and wanted to get it written down before their thoughts turned once more to custard or the contents of their own nose.

If you’re one of those permanently weary individuals known as parents, you may at one time or another have been forced to read your progeny’s delightful attempts at storytelling. The Protector 2 was released in the US on 2nd May taking $270 on its opening weekend.
